Monterey, CA

Every time I talk to people saying how I love history and historic parts of towns (especially evident in California) each one of them tells me

“Oh you should go see Monterey!”

No clue how the heck I didn’t get there until now! This little city is absolutely adorable and has many old buildings. With many I mean almost every building. They were built in about 1840-1880 and tell a story about old times, where there were no fancy cars or asphalt, no crazy traffic, many horses and even more people building a beautiful old town around the american flag by the pier which stood witness of the first landing point of the future american citizens.

There is the custom house from 1827 (the first house built in Monterey!), the jail from 1854, residential houses from the 1850’s, beautiful central courts, an abundance of local plants and flowers (succulents, palm trees & cacti!), structures, monuments, gardens, fountains, hummingbirds buzzing by, a touch of mexican decoration – and at one point I was looking at a beautiful old residence when two people strolled by and the one told the other about how the last time he set foot into this building he saw the ghost of  this old lady lurking behind the curtains in the upper bedroom…

How I love me a good ghost story! :)

I feel like taken back into the ‘good ol days’ in which horses & carriages were outnumbering cars and traffic, whiskey was a real man’s staple food, the sounds of piano music emerging from noisy saloons, and you could shoot the other guy when he stole your girl.

I guess you could say I’m a kind of a romantic.

Needless to say, this is one of my favorite architectural & historical stops.

You should go check out this beautiful little town!
